Kumarakom is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. It is a noted
bird sanctuary where many migratory birds visit. The Vembanad Lake is
habitat for many marine species. Kumarakom
has been drawing increased attention from the
global traveler.
The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, a favourite haunt of migratory birds like the Siberian stork, as well as egrets, darters, herons and teals, is a 14 acre island close to Kumarakom. A short boat ride away is another tourist haven, Pathiramanal, meaning Midnight Sands.
